Star Fox Zero
subdirectory_arrow_right Star Fox 2 (Game)
1
By scanning a Fox or Falco amiibo in Star Fox Zero, the Arwings and Walkers will be swapped out with 16-bit era models as seen in Star Fox and Star Fox 2. The old Arwing model's Charge shot does not lock on to targets, which reflects how they did not have a lock-on feature in Star Fox, but only in Star Fox 2 did they have a Charge shot. At the time of Star Fox Zero's release in 2016, Star Fox 2 remained unreleased, with only leaked beta builds being available, including one that allowed you to lock on to enemies with the Charge shot. The game would eventually be completed by Nintendo and released in 2017, but with this lock-on feature removed. Since Nintendo only showed Star Fox 2 to developers actively working on the series, it's believed that PlatinumGames noticed this feature's removal and referenced it in Star Fox Zero over a year before the game's release by making the old Arwings behave accurately to a version of Star Fox 2 that players did not know about.

In Jenny's showcase, her neutral air light attack is referred to as a "lingair". This is a reference to a tweet made by developer Thaddeus Crews prior to her reveal, where he questioned the appropriateness of the "sex kick", a competitive fighting game term originating from the Super Smash Bros. series for an aerial attack that stays out for an elongated period and slowly becomes less powerful, and suggested "lingering air" as a sanitized alternative.

There is seemingly an error in the descriptions of the Daidoji Grapple Strike/Grip Breaker moves in both fighting styles. The moves are simple counters for if Kiryu is grabbed, and act as a way for Kiryu to throw the opponent off of him. However, the descriptions for the moves read "When surrounded by enemies", implying a different function for the move.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

In an early demo build of the game from E3 2014, Luigi was able to perform a wall-jump (possibly as a leftover from Mario's moveset), but for unknown reasons, this was removed in the final version of the game.

In the Bizarre Room in Wonderland, the fireplace's flames can be "put out" if Sora attacks the fireplace's grated opening with a Blizzard spell, and it can be lit anew if the grated opening is hit with Fire magic instead. Being able to put out the fire makes the second phase of the Trickmaster Heartless boss fight even easier, as the frantic boss cannot light their juggling apparatuses and fling their own Fire at Sora. This is also possibly why the Cheshire Cat gifts Sora a Blizzard spell/upgrade when Sora obtains and shows him at least the Claw Marks piece of evidence during Alice's trail, and also why the grated opening itself is able to be locked onto.

In an interview with Polygon, the series lead Director, Katsuhiro Harada, confirmed that King's motion capture was performed by Japanese pro-wrestling star and MMA pioneer, Minoru Suzuki. The wrestling star made King's fighting style with a mix of Mexican lucha libre and Japanese puroresu. Harada also said that Suzuki also invented original moves for King and Michelle (as well as Julia in future games). Harada also says that Suzuki also offered to choke him out, to which he said "Yeah, of course dude, I want you to choke me out" and that "it felt like taking a refreshing nap."

King's backstory was inspired by Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez, a catholic priest who moonlit as the masked wrestler Fray Tormenta to raise funds for his orphanage, while the character's jaguar mask design was inspired by Tiger Mask, a recurring masked persona first portrayed in real-life by mixed martial artist Satoru Sayama, and a character licensed out to Japanese professional wrestling companies from the 1968 manga of the same name by Ikki Kajiwara.

Attachment The Breegull Bash move in the Japanese versions of Banjo-Tooie and as well as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is called ハリセンカズーイ(Harisen Kazui), which literally translated into English is "Slapping Fan Kazooie". A harisen is a giant paper fan that is typically used as part of a manzai act, where the straight man smacks the funny man in response to their jokes or foolishness. The "Fan" item that appeared in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl is actually a harisen, and it's even called as such (はりせん) in the Japanese version of those games as well.

It's worth pointing out that in general, the Japanese localizations for the Banjo-Kazooie games seem to exclude any mention of the word "Breegull", the name of Kazooie's species. This is something Masahiro Sakurai made note of when showcasing Banjo & Kazooie's moveset in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In addition to having misaligned effects and incorrect colors, the move doesn't have a hurtbox, and once it is done Huitzil is frozen in place until he gets hit by the opponent.

Attachment In Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Huitzil has a fully-functional standing light kick which was never seen in any of the subsequent games. While the CPU never uses it, this attack can be performed by the player, although its slow startup and short range do not make it very useful. It can't be canceled into specials, nor does it have a rapid-fire capability. When Capcom Fighting Collection allowed Huitzil to be playable by conventional means, his animator Shisui said that this move was "so embarrassing that he wished it had never seen the light of day."

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Ren & Stimpy were made a duo fighter in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl to allow them to interact with one another, something that wouldn't be possible if they were two separate characters. Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström noted that it also allowed development time to be assigned to one extra fighter.

Attachment There is an unused model of the Statue of David by Michelangelo in Squidward's prop set. This was likely intended for his air down strong, where he slams down with a block of marble, referencing the SpongeBob episode "Artist Unknown", where SpongeBob makes the same statue by accident. The model has a clam on its groin as censorship, just like in the original episode, but does not have the nose Squidward places on it.

Streets of Kamurocho
1
About a month before the release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon in North America, the protagonist of that game, Ichiban Kasuga, made his playable debut in the region in the game Streets of Kamurocho, a reskin of a Streets of Rage 2 level with Yakuza characters and locations. His moveset is a reskin of Axel Stone from that game as are the other two playable characters: Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima.

Ryuu ga Gotoku Kenzan! allows you to briefly play as certain bosses in the series like Majima Gorohachi and Ito Ittosai in certain battle scenarios. This would mark the first time the Yakuza series would allow you to play as a character besides the main protagonist.
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001

In a 2001 interview featured in the Capcom vs. SNK 2 Another Play Guide, it was revealed that the team wanted to include Linn Kurosawa from Alien vs. Predator as a playable character, but that they couldn't do it due to copyright issues. Because of this, they went with Maki from Final Fight 2 instead.

At another point, they considered giving Maki a moveset identical to the one Linn has, but eventually decided against it, instead giving her a moveset that more closely matches the one she had in her debut game.

In the final update of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Patrick's command grabs gained a glitch that made them unable to penetrate through shields, negating their primary purpose. When asked about fixing Patrick's grabs after the launch of the game's sequel, gameplay and character designer Thaddeus Crews responded "I would if I could".

Super Smash Bros. Crusade
2
In early versions of Super Smash Bros. Crusade, one of the playable characters was "Weegee", a parodic version of Luigi originating from the DOS version of Mario is Missing! whose moveset was a composite of different memes from "YouTube Poop" videos. Weegee was removed in version 9.2 in 2018 as the development team did not want to "be the meme game". They believed the game's reputation was becoming overcentralized on the presence of Weegee, and that the character was not of a high enough quality standard to keep around. This decision sparked major backlash from Crusade fans, and ultimately Weegee was reinstated in 2021's version 9.4, with a new moveset comprising of more modern memes.

"I'm the lead Spriter of the project since about halfway through 0.9.1's development (Shantae and Pikachu being my first major projects).

The reasoning behind removing Weegee is because we don't want to be the meme game. We're working hard to make an enjoyable experience, and are working to really up the quality lately. However, this does not mean that we're not open to slightly less orthodox roster decisions. We just don't want a literal meme character is all.

To those who are following the project, we have been working on redoing older content to bring it to a higher quality standard. This does not mean that the game is done expanding. It just means that we have some catching up to do before we can really push forward."
