In shrines, after placing the Sheikah Slate to download runes, Hylian text begins to run down the stalactite above it. Portions of the text have been translated to read "NOW LOADING DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR" and "ALL YOUR BASE ARE". The latter phrase is a reference to Zero Wing, a 1989 game infamous for its horrible English dialogue that spawned the iconic phrase "All your base are belong to us".

The release was later delayed to 2016 after developers conceived of new gameplay options they wanted to include. This release date was then further delayed to 2017 so that it could be released simultaneously on Nintendo's next platform, the Nintendo Switch.

Inside the game's files is a picture containing Link doing a pose next to Zelda. What's interesting about this is that Link's "Hero of the Wild" hat and tunic were changed in the final release. The length of the sleeve and cuffing were also shortened in the final version; it was rolled up slightly and thinner as seen in the photo. The gold trim on his hat was subdued green in the final release, likely because the 8-bit Link amiibo had a similar form.

A save glitch exists that allows a player to exit the Shrine of Resurrection without the Sheikah Slate; without the Sheikah Slate, the player cannot warp and does not have a map but can use runes, control Divine Beasts and interact with terminals. Time is also stopped, preventing Blood Moons.
If the player desires to obtain the Sheikah Slate later, he/she can by returning to the Shrine of Resurrection.

Inside the last room in the Sword Monk's Shrine, after completing the Trial of the Sword, there are seven monks with their arms in positions representing poses of the seven Sages in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. During a demo at E3 2016, the Shiekah Slate had the ability to reveal an enemy's Hit Points. To do so, the players would hold the Wii U gamepad up to the screen and hold the cursor at the enemy who's Hit Points they want to see. This was removed because of how cumbersome it was and how it was almost no help in helping players on how to analyze enemy camps.
