Sonic Mega Collection
1
Attachment At one point in development, Sonic CD was going to be a playable option in the game. The entire European manual was scanned and is fully viewable in the game; however, no known prototype exists with an image file of the actual game (some people have chalked it up to size constraints and others to technical constraints). There are also two listings in the same prototype for "Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie 1" and "Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie 2," suggesting that the OVA was going to be in the game as well, and would have been split into two parts like the original 1996 Japanese VHS release.
Sonic Advance 2
1
In Sonic Mega Collection, there is a trailer for this game. The trailer features a song that is not used in the final game, and it's unknown what the song would have been used for.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
1
Attachment Originally, Sonic was going to use a surfboard to get onto Angel Island. This was changed to him flying in as Super Sonic, most likely to connect this game with the true ending of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The surfboard sprites can still be found in the game's data.
Sonic the Hedgehog
1
Attachment In the game's code there exists a sprite of a Goggle monitor, and some matching goggles to go with it. There is also an unused sprite of Sonic holding his breath, meaning these were likely once an underwater power up.
Sonic the Hedgehog
1
Attachment Scrap Brain Zone was originally known as 'Clock Ork Zone'. It's believed the name was changed because it was planned to be called 'Clock Work Zone', but no 'W' existed in the game's zone title font.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
1
Attachment Inside the game's data is an unused and alternate sprite for Yoshi spitting watermelon seeds. The sprite is not as puffed up as the sprite in the final version.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
1
Silver, Jet, Cream, Big, Espio, Rouge, Donkey Kong, Birdo, and a Goomba all have playable character data, but are only accessible through hacking. Donkey Kong and Silver were made playable in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
1
Attachment There is an unused item that looks similar to a Life Shroom, but is named 'Dummy'. If used, Mario (or Luigi) will throw it in the air (while inside Bowser) and it will explode, healing 60 HP back to Bowser. It was most likely scrapped because of the fact only the Sea Pipe Statue and Durmite can damage Bowser from inside.
Super Mario Sunshine
1
By using a cheat device, you can access a test room. Certain beta elements are in it. For example, a soccer ball, along with a Hinokuri without its outer shell.
Umihara Kawase
1
There are four fully-coded but ultimately unused enemies hidden in the game data; a Catfish, a Blue plant, a Vertical plant and a Puffer Fish.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
1
In the attract mode for the arcade version, there is a one second clip of Rain fighting Shao Kahn, despite the fact that Rain does not appear in this version. This could either mean that Rain was meant to be added to the game or that he was placed there to make fans speculate on if he's real or not.
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!
1
The Epilogue shows several enemies that were cut from the final game.
Spyro 2: Season of Flame
1
At one stage during development, Spyro was able to swim. His swimming animation had over 500 frames of animation, but it was cut from the game as the developers didn't feel that it added to the gameplay.
J-Stars Victory Vs
1
Data for Jotaro Kujo and Dio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Dai from Dragon Quest: Dai's Great Adventure, and Yoh Asakura from Shaman King can be found in the game's data. It is currently unknown whether they were planned as DLC, or were originally intended to be included in the game, but were later removed.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
1
Two names, help_A_access, and help_door_access can be found in the game's files. It says "Hah! I'm not telling you my secrets at the show! Wait for the final version!" These were used as an E3 demo and can't be found in the Multi-Game Demo disc for the Gamecube.
Yoshi's Island DS
1
Attachment The logo on the side of the game's early box art shows that it was intended to have online functionality, but no such feature is present in the final game.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
1
Attachment The Diggas seen in the E3 2009 Trailer had a different design than those found in the Spin Dig Galaxy in the final version. Their eyes were positioned on their sides, rather than on top, and their bodies were rounder, making them look more like yellow Bullet Bills.
Mario Party 9
1
Attachment An early version of the game board "Toad Road" can be found in the game's data. The early version included three mountains, a cloud, many Toad houses, and a Wiggler, who was probably the board leader.
Mario Kart 64
1
The Game originally had a Vertical Split-screen in 2 Player gameplay. This cannot be done without hacking in the Final Version, and the Lap Counter still appears in Battle Mode. Mario Kart 8 later managed to use Vertical Split-screen 18 years later.
Super Mario 64 DS
1
Attachment Coincentration's sprite set contains some Super Mario Advance 4 sprites, which aren't used in the final game. Coincentration's internal name is "wrecking_crew", a reference to the NES game of the same name. The mini-game uses this name in New Super Mario Bros. as well.
