The name and characters were changed to Tetris and the Yoshi series to be more recognizable to North Americans. Henk Rogers, the CEO of The Tetris Company, says that he regrets granting permission to Nintendo to use the Tetris name on a game that has nothing to do with Tetris.

Attachment Both Splash Woman and Hornet Man had their genders swapped; they were each originally designed as Ocean Man and Honey Woman respectively. The reason they were changed was because Keiji Inafune wanted the female robot master to be represented by a mermaid.

Attachment There was a third game in the works titled "The Legend of Zelda: Mystical Seed of Courage." The name comes from the original titles of Oracle of Seasons (Mystical Seed of Power) and Oracle of Ages (Mystical Seed of Wisdom). The game was meant to come out several months after its prequels to form a trilogy (like the triforce), but was scrapped after complications arose with linking the three games together.

Snake's Revenge was created as a direct sequel to the NES version of Metal Gear without Hideo Kojima's knowledge or involvement. Kojima met one of the developers on a train, who urged him to create a true sequel. This led Kojima to create Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

The place can be viewed by entering the console commands "coc WindhelmPitEntrance" and "coc WindhelmPitExterior".

Articuno is Arctic (ice) and uno (one), Zapdos is Zap (electricity) and dos (two), and Moltres is Molten (fire) and tres (three). This is also the order that they appear in the National Pokédex.
Luigi's Mansion
1
Attachment In earlier versions of Luigi's Mansion there was a timer on the HUD. According to Nintendo Power Magazine, this was because Luigi had only 24 hours to save Mario. It was never explained what happened if he failed, but fans have speculated that Mario, along with the Mansion, would have disappeared, or that Luigi would have been possessed. This speculation is based on leftover 'Ranking' files in the game's data. Three unused renders show Luigi holding a flower and looking depressed, him looking happy and making a peace sign, and another of him making two peace signs.

Zero Racers
subdirectory_arrow_right F-Zero (Franchise)
1
Attachment An F-Zero game for the Virtual Boy titled "Zero Racers" was in development with a projected release for Fall of 1996. The game would have featured four new racers: Falcon, Stingray, Goose and Origammy; which resembled the F-Zero regulars the Blue Falcon, Fire Stingray and Wild Goose respectively, apart from the Origammy which was an original vehicle. The game was canceled most likely due to poor sales of the Virtual Boy console.

Attachment According to an interview with Dylan Cuthbert in the British Official Nintendo Magazine, the renaming of the game from Star Fox to Starwing in European territories was done to avoid confusing the game with an unrelated German company called Star Vox, as the letter "V", in some languages like Dutch and German, is pronounced as the letter "F".
Franchise: Final Fantasy
1
Attachment The recurring characters Gilgamesh and Enkidu are actually based off of the characters of the same name from The Epic of Gilgamesh, the world's oldest recorded literary work dating back to 2000 BC Sumeria. Gilgamesh himself was named after the title character and a great king of Uruk, a region in Sumeria, who reigned around 2650 BC. Final Fantasy's Gilgamesh's bombastic warrior personality is mentioned in The Epic of Gilgamesh as the other Gods hated his pompous god-like personality and his claims of being 2/3 God, 1/3 human. Gilgamesh's quest for Excalibur in Final Fantasy is similar to Gilgamesh's quest for immortality in Sumerian epic. Enkidu is also similar to his Sumerian counterpart. Enkidu's beast-like appearance in all of the Final Fantasy games he's in are reminiscent of his upbringing in The Epic of Gilgamesh. Enkidu was created as a wild beastman to match Gilgamesh's strength so he could kill him. The two became partners after the fight ended in a draw and they became best friends. This is similar to how their Final Fantasy counterparts are usually inseparable and are battle partners.

In Mulgore, there is a character by the name of Ahab Wheathoof, who gives you a quest to find his lost dog, Kyle. This character was actually created by a child by the name of Ezra Chatterton, who had brain cancer as a child. Ezra was able to go to Blizzard's offices thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and help design the character, who was also voiced by Ezra. Ezra also received the first Ashes of Al'ar, a phoenix mount, phoenix being both Ezra's middle name as well as his in-game name (Ephoenix). Ezra also helped create the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix, a crossbow that has the inscription of "Finely crafted to Ephoenix's specification." Unfortunately, Ezra suffered a stroke in August, 2008, and died on October 20th. As one last tribute, the elder that appears in Thunder Bluff during the Lunar Festival was renamed to Ezra Wheathoof.
Platform: Xbox 360

Allard (then the executive vice president of Microsoft), it was revealed that the Xbox 360 got the "360" part of its name because it reminds people of something positive in their lives.
