Kingdom Hearts II
1
According to Tetsuya Nomura, the idea to put Sea-Salt Ice-Cream in the game came from the time he went to Tokyo DisneySea, where they sold this type of ice cream. He stated he liked the treat so much, he asked Disney if he could put it into the game as a treat the kids in Twilight Town ate during summer vacation.
Collection: Leisure Suit Larry
1
A Leisure Suit Larry 4 was once in production. According to Al Lowe, the game was meant to be the first multiplayer online adventure game, and was going to use a new way to play the game. However, there were many problems with the technology they had at the time, so the game was shelved. The ending to Leisure Suit Larry 3 was also very definite and had almost no way to lead to another game. Because of both of these reasons, the developers decided to skip 4 and go straight to 5 to be able to do what ever they wanted with it. The 4th game is now considered an in-joke among fans and developers.
Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes
1
The game was originally called "Duke Nukem: Planet of the Babes." However, the 2001 remake of "Planet of the Apes" was still under production, and the producers of the movie, feeling that the game's title was too close to that of the movie, wanted the name changed.

Hotel Mario

Depending on the day the CD-i's clock is set to, very brief messages will appear underneath the loading screen of the game's first level in place of the standard "HERE WE GO!" message:

• January 1st = "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
• February 14th = "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!"
• February 17th = "ITS HOLLIES BIRTHDAY!", celebrating the birthday of Play Consultant Hollie S. Lohff.
• May 8th = "DO NOT FORGET MOTHERS DAY!"
• July 4th = "HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!"
• August 31st = "READY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL?"
• October 31st = "BOOOOOOOOO!!!"
• November 24th = "HAPPY TURKEY DAY! GOBBLE GOBBLE!"
• December 25th = "HAPPY HOLIDAYS!"
• December 31st = "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

In regards to the February 17th message, Hollie S. Lohff is the daughter of one of the game's engineers, Thomas Lohff. She was brought in to playtest the game and commented that Mario should be able to jump, as it was weird to play a Mario game without that mechanic. The developers took her advice and added her to the game credits as "Play Consultant."

The French version of the game features its own unique messages to indicate French holidays:

• January 1st = "BONNE ANNEE" ("Happy New Year.")
• Late January = "ALLONS CHERCHER LA FEVE" ("Let's find the charm." Displays in a time of year where in France the people eat some "Galette des Rois" (King's Pie) and there is a charm hidden in the pie.)
• February 14th = "C'EST LA SAINT VALENTIN" ("It's Valentine's Day.")
• Carnival celebration in France = "ON SE DEGUISERA POUR LE MARDI GRAS" ("We'll be dressing up for Mardi Gras.")
• Easter = "OU SONT CACHES LES OEUFS" ("Where are the eggs hidden?")
• Last Sunday in May = "BONNE FETE MAMAN" ("Happy Mother's Day, Mom!")
• May 31st = "L'ECOLE EST BIENTOT FINIE" ("School is almost over." Displays when most schools began Summer vacation at the time.)
• Third Sunday of June = "BONNE FETE PAPA" ("Happy Father's Day, Dad!")
• July 14th = "ALLONS ENFANT DE LA PATRIIIIEEE" ("Arise, children of the Fatherland." Displays on France's national celebration. Taken from the French national anthem "La Marseillaise", although "ENFANT" should be "ENFANTS" due to the plural grammar rule.)
• August 31st = "PREPAREZ VOS CARTABLES" ("Prepare your schoolbags." Referring to returning to school. Displays when most schools were ending Summer vacation at the time.)
• December 25th = "JOYEUX NOEL" ("Merry Christmas.")
• December 31st = "BONNE ANNEE" ("Happy New Year")

Franchise: Guilty Gear
1
Attachment The character Zato-ONE from Guilty Gear was replaced in Guilty Gear XX with a parasite named "Eddie." The character was killed off due to his voice actor, Kaneto Shiozawa, dying in 2000 from a severe concussion. Daisuke Ishiwatari wanted to keep Zato in the game out of respect, so they had Eddie take over Zato's corpse. Eddie is currently voiced by Takehito Koyasu, establishing him as a different character.

As of Xrd, Zato has been resurrected and is once again playable under his original "Zato-ONE" name, albeit still voiced by Koyasu.
Call of Duty: World at War
1
Attachment There was a planned Perk-A-Cola titled Amm-O-Matic for Shi No Numa and Der Riese. It would act similar to a Max Ammo power up and replenish the players ammo. Early textures can be found in the game files.
Mortal Kombat
1
Originally, Jax was going to be in the game, going under the name Kurtis Stryker. He was later dropped and replaced with Sonya Blade (who also adopting Jax's backstory) when Ed Boon wanted to add a female player to the then all male cast. Jax would later be made into a character for Mortal Kombat II, where he was made into Sonya's partner. The name Kurtis Stryker was later given to a police officer in Mortal Kombat 3.
Dark Souls
1
Attachment It is commonly speculated that Gwyndolin was a son of Lord Gwyn raised as a woman due to his affinity to the moon. Unsurprisingly this leads to him having feminine traits such as long hair, fair skin, and feminine clothing. But surprisingly he also has breasts. This is because the character model used for Gwyndolin is a female character model, despite the fact the character is actually male. This trait is also present in the Dark Souls Art Book.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
1
The game started out as a prototype for a new 3D Mario game in which the player played as Yoshi.

"The end came when we pitched to do a 3D platform game, the likes of which had never been done before. We mocked up a prototype using Yoshi. It was essentially the world's first 3D platform game and was obviously a big risk. [...] Nintendo had never let an outside company use their characters before, and weren't about to, either. This is the moment the deal fell apart. We later made that game into Croc: Legend of the Gobbos for the PlayStation, Saturn and PC, which became our biggest ever game in terms of sales and also in royalties, since we owned the IP."
Donkey Kong Country
2
It was rumored that Shigeru Miyamoto disliked Donkey Kong Country. The rumor stated that Miyamoto said "Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre game play as long as the art is good."

Later in an interview with IGN, Miyamoto clarified that he did in fact like Donkey Kong Country, and that he worked very closely with Rare on the game.

Voice files of these can still be found in the games files.

Payday: The Heist
1
Many of the heists in the game take inspiration from movies such as Heat (Heat Street), Inside Man (First World Bank) or Panic Room (Surprise Panic Room).
Fallout: New Vegas
1
There were originally plans for romance speech options and game endings for companions, but the idea was ultimately cancelled before any work was done on it. According to Jason Bergman (the Senior Producer for New Vegas), "Tt was clear that it wasn't going to be fun or interesting in any way. Also Avellone really hates romance in games."

One of the romance ideas that was talked about was if you romanced Cass, you were both going to get drunk and wake up married. And there was another idea where if your rep was high enough, the player would get married to their companion by the King, with him singing "Love Me Tender" a la Nicholas Cage in Wild at Heart.
Zelda's Adventure
1
Attachment Nearly all of the scenery in the game were of shots taken of the Los Angeles area. Some of the background terrain textures were vacation type pictures taken from a helicopter in Hawaii by one of the developers before the game's actual development had started. The image's file sizes took up much of the game's RAM usage resulting in the slow scrolling backgrounds.
Sonic X-treme
1
Due to the stress involved with the game's production, Director Chris Senn actually grew physically ill, stating that he "took on far more than was healthy... and after 2 years I became extremely ill... a nurse told me he thought I had 6 months to live, actually. I lost 25 pounds, was sick all the time, had cramps... and still went in to work... all due to too much stress."
