The Grenade Launcher was planned for the game, but was cut during development. Although, in the Playstation 2 version the grenade launcher model (grenlanc.dff) and its textures (grenlanc.txd) can still be found in game files. These files were removed from all other ports of the game.

Attachment The Butler is a cut character. The purpose of the character is unknown, however it's logical that he was intended to be Salvatore Leone's butler. The only remains are the butler's fully textured model in both gta3.img and txd.img.

The German version was heavily censored to meet a USK 16 rating. The edits made were the removal of blood, headshots and amputations taken out (although NPCs would still appear limping if shot), unable to hit anyone whilst they're on the ground (attempting to would have you flail around over them), no money dropped from killed NPCs and all rampage missions removed.

Attachment Bowser's Japanese name, Kuppa (pronounced Koopa), was named by Shigeru Miyamoto after the Korean dish Gukbap, roughly known in Japan as 'Kuppa'. Other dishes considered were Yukke ('Yukhoe' in Korean) and Bibinba ('Bibimbap' in Korean).

Attachment Sleeping Dogs was originally going to be published by Activision, under the title True Crime: Hong Kong. Square Enix purchased the rights to publish the game, but couldn't get the rights to the True Crime franchise, so the name was changed.
X2: Wolverine's Revenge

There was a cutscene with Spider-Man planned for the game, placed sometime before the Magneto boss fight. Rino Romano (reprising his role from Spider-Man Unlimited) had recorded his lines before being cut. The removed scene can be unlocked by collecting all the dog tags in the game.

Dr. Nefarious' attack color scheme was picked at random from a friend of Tony Garcia, the designer of the boss. Since the battle was the last thing to be programed, he was running out of ideas for colors. He picked one friend that was online at the time and asked for two colors, which they gave red and black. These random colors have stayed with the character.

In an interview with Shinji Mikami Resident Evils producer, he claimed the game was originally going to be based around ghosts instead of zombies. He later changed it to zombies after being inspired by George.A.Romeros "Night of the living dead"

Rockstar had the idea to include several playable characters in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, like in Grand Theft Auto V, but the feature was omitted due to the technical limitations of the time.

Marty Mcfly and Doc Brown from Back to the Future were considered for the game but were cut due to them not being appropriate for a game with mature spoken content. Walking Dead characters were also considered but were cut because it would not be a thematic fit.

In the English prototype of Mother, some of the characters were redesigned, possibly to avoid resembling characters from Charles Schulz's Peanuts comic strip. One NPC character was given pigtails to reduce her resemblance to Marcy, Peppermint Patty's best friend, and the dust cloud was removed from an NPC that looked like "Pigpen". Ninten's mom was also given a different hairstyle, possibly because it resembled Sally Brown, Charlie Brown's sister. Ironically, Ninten's shirt was given a stripe, which made him look similar to Charlie Brown.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Genocide City Zone is a scrapped level from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was meant to be a single act but ultimately became Metropolis Zone Act 3. According to Sonic 2 level designer Tom Payne, the name "Genocide City" was chosen due to the development team's "not quite complete grasp of the English language" hence the change to Cyber City later on.

There was a planned boss for the Graveyard named Necrosan, but the idea was scrapped.
