Sneak King
subdirectory_arrow_right Pocket Bike Racer (Game), Big Bumpin' (Game), Xbox 360 (Platform), Xbox (Platform), Xbox Series X|S (Platform)
1
Attachment The Burger King Xbox trilogy - Sneak King, Big Bumpin', and Pocketbike Racer - has an unusual packaging and disc design, bearing the aesthetic design of the Xbox 360's packaging art, but simply saying "Xbox" due to the game disc containing files for both Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game. This is exclusive to the Burger King games, with original Xbox games released after the trilogy still having the original Xbox packaging template from 2001. The concept of a unified "Xbox brand" box design shared between all platforms would eventually see wide use with the release of the Xbox Series X|S, which would clarify which only feature the Xbox brand logo and clarify which platforms the disc is compatible with.

Sonic R
1
In Resort Island in Sonic R, there is a small village next to a cave containing 3 buildings, one of which has an ichthys (known colloquially as the "Jesus fish") on it. When it was added to the game, Sega asked Travelers' Tales founder Jon Burton if it was intended as a Christian reference, and nonchalantly gave the go-ahead when he answered honestly.
Pac-Man World Rally
subdirectory_arrow_right Dig Dug (Collection)
1
Attachment Pac-Man World Rally was originally going to be based on the works of famed psychedelic hot rod cartoonist Stanley Mouse. Fygar's kart is a leftover from this version of the project, hence why it doesn't fit the aesthetic style of the other karts and isn't directly based on the Dig Dug franchise.
Franchise: Pokémon
3
Attachment According to Tsunekazu Ishihara, the president of The Pokémon Company, Nintendo of America didn’t like the original Japanese designs for Pokémon as they thought they looked “too cute”, so they made their own redesigns.

In particular, Pikachu was apparently redesigned to resemble a tiger with big breasts. When Ishihara asked how it was meant to be Pikachu, the American designers responded that because it has Pikachu’s tail, then that makes it Pikachu.
Princess Peach: Showtime!
2
Prior to the game's release, Nintendo made some minor adjustments to the game's key art, changing the eyebrows on Peach's face design slightly to appear more competitive (with some comparing it to her design in The Super Mario Bros. Movie), and changing Kung Fu Peach's expression to one of anger. Unlike similar changes made to artwork of other Nintendo games - most infamously the Kirby franchise - where an angry version would be made for Western territories and a happy version would be made for US territories, this change was made to both the Japanese and American versions of the art.
Smite
subdirectory_arrow_right Rocko's Modern Life (Franchise)
1
Attachment When Danzaburou uses his Tanuki Trickery move with the Rocko skin from the Nickelodeon crossover event in Smite, a set of comics are spawned featuring Rocko's friends, each with a title that reads as "NAME the ADJECTIVE" - Filburt the Smart, Heffer the Slow, and Paula the Cook.

Dr. Paula Hutchinson is never referred to as simply "Paula" in Rocko's Modern Life, only "Dr. Hutchinson" or "Hutch", even after marrying Filburt Shellbach in "The Big Answer", and - although she takes on a variety of professions throughout the series - she is not a chef.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
1
Attachment On August 15, 2018, to promote the release of the upcoming film "Venom", the character designer of Super Mario RPG, Kazuyuki Kurashima, posted on Twitter a drawing of Venom alongside Belome, as both characters are known for having long tongues.
Fate/Grand Order
subdirectory_arrow_right Fate/Stay Night (Game), Fate (Franchise)
2
Attachment The "Fate/Unpublished Material" and "Fate/Side Material" booklets reveal an unused character for Fate/Stay Night. "Tachie", otherwise known as "Galahad", "Shielder", or "Stray Servant" was planned as an alternate Heroine Servant the player could have chosen instead of Saber. She was scrapped from the game as to keep the story manageable.

This character was also planned for the animated adaptation of Fate/Stay Night by Studio Deen, but was scrapped in favor of an adaptation of the "Fate" Route. An animated movie featuring Tachie was also considered, but also abandoned.

This unused character was later revisited and inspired the design for Mash Kyrielight, a seperate Shielder Servant and primary heroine of Fate/Grand Order.

Suikoden II
2
During an interview, it was revealed that the game's illustrator, Fumi Ishikawa, was a big fan of Flik. The team created a fake set of planning notes for Nina's unite attack with Flik in case Ishikawa was to delete it out of anger for Nina and Flik's relationship.
Evil Nun
1
The game's plot is inspired by the real-life string of Magdalene Laundries, specifically those in Ireland and Australia. Named after the Biblical figure Mary Magdalene, these were Protestant or Roman Catholic institutions ostensibly designed to house "fallen women" (i.e. sexually promiscuous women, prostitutes, young women who became pregnant outside of marriage, or young girls and teenagers who did not have familial support) by taking them in, or occasionally kidnapping them, and forcing them to work in laundries commercially-run by local nun convents under poor conditions and exploitative abuse.

A series of paintings by Rachael Romero, an Australian girl who fled from her abusive father and for a time worked in a Magdalene Laundry in the city of Adelaide, inspired the overall design of the game's laundry room and general aesthetics. The room, and certain objects such as a machine and a wooden basket, were also directly based on pictures from these laundries.

Company: Interplay
subdirectory_arrow_right ClayFighter (Collection)
1
In 2015, internet artists Chris O'Neil, Zach Hadel and Mick Lauer were commissioned to make a trailer for a cancelled reboot of ClayFighter. They made a commercial actively mocking Interplay and the ClayFighter brand, showing quotes from negative reviews, referring to low-quality Interplay games, bait-and-switching an Earthworm Jim reboot, and having Lauer narrate the trailer in a disappointed tone of voice when he discovers that he is announcing a ClayFighter reboot. According to Hadel, the CEO of Interplay was "braindead" and did not pick up on the self-deprecation.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Attachment Wrinkly Kong's official art depicts her reading a book. The first page is an advertisement for the game reading:

Diddy Kong Quest

The second page has a recipe for "Grammy's Worm Pie", which states:

Take one ugly worm
Squash it underfoot
Half-bake in oven
Add groovy gravy
(Don't expect to sell
many, as worms are
very unpopular.)

This is a reference to the Earthworm Jim franchise, which previously took a jab at Donkey Kong Country in its Sega CD port of the game.

Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots
1
Attachment While the Nicktoons Unite! game franchise exclusively featured characters from Nickelodeon cartoons, concept art for the Fairy Harvester stage from Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots shows Parker from the live-action puppet series Mr. Meaty on a sign for a fake restaurant made to lure fairies.
Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker
1
Attachment In the city set of Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker, a fried chicken store titled "Chick N' Chunks" can be seen. This is not the name of any one location from any Nickelodeon series, but its branding is reminiscent of the Chokey Chicken restaurant from Rocko's Modern Life, a connection further supported by Filburt and Dr. Hutchison's trailer home appearing on the same map.

In Season 4 of Rocko's Modern Life, released the same year as Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker, the Chokey Chicken was renamed "Chewy Chicken" due to the original name's sexual slang meaning, meaning that Chick N' Chunks may have been an alternate censorship of the "Chokey Chicken" name.

Attachment In the Limited Edition ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Box Set for PS3, an art book titled 'Shinwa wo Tsumugu' is included. It features some interviews with members of Team ICO and among them is Junichi Hosono, who claims Ueda derived Yorda's name from the character of Hilda in the Toei film, "Horus: Prince of the Sun".

This is somewhat corroborated by the movie's presence on Ueda's shelf, which is shown in this same art book.

Hilda's character traits and arc are very different from that of Yorda, but her dynamic between the valiant Horus and the ice devil Grunwald seemed to serve as a heavy inspiration for ICO's narrative.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
1
Attachment In a Japan-exclusive Shogakukan Wonder Life Special guidebook authored by Nintendo and Ape Inc., there is artwork depicting Link praying before a Crucifix, contrasting the game's origin story of the three Golden Goddesses, but also fitting with the Japanese version of the game calling the Sanctuary a Church. The Church's name was changed to the Sanctuary outside of Japan, presumably due to Nintendo's international policy on religious imagery, although this artwork and the rest featured in this guidebook were never republished internationally as other publishers released their own guides instead.
