The Japanese version of the game is significantly slower than other copies of the game. However, it does offer a 'Director's Cut Mode' when the game has been fully completed. When activated, the game runs at the same speed as the US version of the game.

There are several extra music tracks that only play under unusual circumstances, and only in certain levels. What causes them to play is as of yet unknown. The European release added six more such tracks, which seem to play randomly after spending an extended period of time in levels that have already been completed.

When Insomniac Games first started to develop the game, Spyro was a green dragon. However, this caused problems as Spyro kept blending in with most of the environments, causing them to eventually change his color to purple.
