In the dam level, there are three guard towers on the main dam, and one across the lake on the hidden island. The ones on the dam are marked 2, 3, and 4 in order, and the one on the island doesn't have a number. This leaves guard tower 1 missing from the game.

It's possible that this tower originally appeared immediately to the right of the locked gate to the dam. When it was eventually removed, the developers may have simply forgotten to change the other numbers.

Attachment Even after unlocking all 23 cheat options through the single player campaign, there is still an empty 24th space left in the cheat menu. This space is left for nine cheat options which cannot be unlocked during the course of the game. They can only be added to the menu using a GameShark. The cheat options include:

Attachment The saving icon in the game changes on certain days to remember several fallen pioneers in heavy metal music.
On February 19th the saving symbol changes to a lighting bolt. A reference to former AC/DC vocalist Bon Scott who died on said date.
The same also applies to Randy Rhoads (former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne) and "Dimebag" Darrel (guitarist for both Pantera and Damageplan) where on March 19th and December 8th, both dates on which the respective musician died, the saving symbol changes to a "PR" and a dime respectively.

He used the money he earned to buy a house in London which he nicknamed "Nintendo Towers". While the Project M Backroom was preparing the release for Project M Demo 2.5, a mod of Brawl that makes it play like Melee, they discovered that there was a bug in the game where button inputs can take anywhere between zero to two frames before being recognized by the game. This means that anytime you press any button in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the attack might start up later. It is unknown why this happens.

The GoldenEye 007 instruction booklet lists a Soviet weapon called the Spyder. However, no weapon by the name of the Spyder is found in the final game. The name Spyder was actually dropped due to legal reasons, and the gun was renamed the Klobb after Nintendo of America's Ken Lobb, who helped the game during its development. The manual was simply printed without the correction made, or it was printed before the name change took place. Before being named the Spyder, the gun was also called the Skorpion, based on its real-world counterpart, the Skorpion VZ/61.

Attachment In the Generation I games, the plaque accompanying the space shuttle model reads "Space Shuttle Columbia"; however, in the Generation III remakes the plaque simply reads "Space Shuttle". This is probably due to the fact that on February 1, 2003, the real Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry during its 28th mission, killing all seven crew members. The reference to Space Shuttle Columbia was kept in the Japanese version of the Generation III games.

Attachment Conker's Bad Fur Day started out as a sequel to Conker's Pocket Tales called Twelve Tales: Conker 64, but was changed to the more mature Conker's Bad Fur Day due to people calling the game 'cutesy', making Rare overreact.

Around the time of its announcement, Rare had already made two similar games, Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing. They feared criticism for making another innocent platformer starring cute animals. So, in 1999, Rare Ltd. revealed that they were going to redesign the game to appeal to an older audience.

Attachment Several of the Koopa Kids' names are parodies of various musical celebrities, most of whom were popular at the time of the game's production. The names were chosen by Nintendo of America employee Dayvv Brooks, a longtime music enthusiast who previously worked at music retailer Tower Records and as a radio DJ:

• Iggy Koopa is named after Iggy Pop, an American rock singer and frontman of the proto-punk group The Stooges.
• Lemmy Koopa takes his name from Lemmy Kilmister, a British heavy metal artist best known as the bassist and lead vocalist for the band Motörhead.
• Ludwig Von Koopa is named after 19th century German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, and shares his wild hairstyle.
• Morton Koopa Jr. is named after American pop and country singer Morton Downey Jr., now perhaps best known for his self-titled talk show. Morton Koopa Jr. also has a white face with a black star over his left eye, the trademark makeup of guitarist Paul Stanley from the American hard rock band KISS.
• Roy Koopa is named after American country singer Roy Orbison, and both wear horn-rimmed sunglasses.
• Wendy O. Koopa is named after Wendy O. Williams, an American punk singer and frontwoman of the shock rock band the Plasmatics.

The namesake of Larry Koopa remains unclear, with multiple explanations emerging over the years. In 2010, the web page for Nintendo's official UK magazine claimed that the character was named after American talk show host Larry King. However, two years later, Brooks himself made an edit on the Super Mario Wiki claiming that the name was actually derived from Larry Mullen Jr., the drummer for Irish pop rock band U2; site staffer Walkazo verified that the account was legitimate. Brooks ultimately denied both claims in a 2015 interview with Kotaku, stating that "There's no real-world equivalent — he's not Larry Mullen Jr. from U2 or Larry King — he just looked like a Larry."

Attachment There is a optional hidden boss in Monstro Town named Culex, who is an homage to the Final Fantasy series. His appearance purposely breaks the style in Super Mario RPG to reinforce this homage.

To fight Culex you must go to Moleville and purchase fireworks, then trade them at the little mole's Pur-Tend Store for the Shiny Stone. Use this stone on the sealed door in Monstro Town. You'll end up in a battle with Culex, and if you beat Culex you'll get the Quartz Charm.

Culex's battle, victory, and post-battle conversation themes are (respectively) the boss theme from Final Fantasy IV, the victory theme from the Final Fantasy series, and the Final Fantasy main theme. Also, the Elemental Crystals that Culex uses are the same as in Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IV.

An otherwise normal member of the species, the Shifty Looking Cow likewise has a dialogue option that does nothing. Pokémon Gold and Silver were originally planned to be the last Pokémon games:

Tsunekazu Ishihara: That's right. After we released Red and Green, we began working on these titles, thinking that the ultimate in Pokémon games could only ever be Gold and Silver.

Satoru Iwata: Not in your wildest dreams did you think that you'd be making more and more games after Gold and Silver. (laughs)

Ishihara: The reason that I licensed so many products and developed things like the trading cards was basically to ensure that Gold and Silver were successful. I felt that this was my primary role. So at that time, I worked with the assumption that after we put out Gold and Silver, my work as far as Pokémon was concerned would be done.

Iwata: I see.

Ishihara: So for me, Gold and Silver represented the finish line.

Iwata: They were the finish line?

Ishihara: I didn't intend to make any more Pokémon titles. I even thought that once we entered the twenty-first century, it would be time for me to do something else entirely. (laughs)
