Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag
1
There was originally going to be a mission that took place during Mary Read and Anne Bonny's last battle before they were captured, which would have also lead to Edward being captured. However, the developers thought that the player had already spent enough time in Nassau (where the battle was to take place) and the mission was dropped.
Dead Space
1
To come up with ideas for the Necromorph enemies, developers studied the carnage of car wrecks. Ideas for the scares were conceived by watching various horror movies.
Tonic Trouble
1
Tonic Trouble started as a game created to test the engine for Rayman 2: The Great Escape.
Dead Space
1
Dead Space started production as an Xbox game. The game was later re-purposed as a next-gen game ultimately releasing on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
1
Attachment Fang the Sniper, called Nack the Weasel in the English release of Sonic Triple Trouble and various English-language comic books, originally wielded a realistic gun. However, this was considered too violent for the Sonic series, and was changed to a cork-shooting popgun during development of his debut game, Sonic Triple Trouble.
Mafia II
1
Attachment Each collectable wanted poster depicts a gangster-style mugshot of a member of the game's staff.
Berzerk

The design of the bad guy, Evil Otto, is based on the smiley face made popular in the 1960's. The developer, Alan McNeil, despised the image, because he felt it depicted a kind of "fake friendliness" he associated with businesses and salesmen. He made Evil Otto into a Smiley just to add a little sarcasm to the game, imagining the tagline "Have a Nice Day!", which frequently accompanied the smiley face, as here meaning "Have a Nice Day while I beat you to death."

Evil Otto's name, however, comes from the security manager at Alan McNeil's previous employer, Dave Nutting Associates: Dave Otto. Nobody at DNA liked Dave Otto, because he instituted strange and annoying policies, which Alan collectively described as "you are all guilty until proven innocent".
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
1
Development on The Lost Frontier started at Naughty Dog, being worked on by a second team that was created after finishing Jak X: Combat Racing. However, with both teams developing for new consoles (the PS3 and PSP), most of their time and effort was spent learning the hardware and writing new tools, with very little progress being made on the games themselves. People within the company began to get frustrated, and many quit. With the studio rapidly losing developers, it was decided that one of the projects would have to be dropped and the two teams consolidated for the studio to survive. The Lost Frontier was given to High Impact Games to finish, and Naughty Dog put their whole team on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Epic Mickey
1
Attachment It was originally intended for Wonderland to appear in the game. The world can still be seen in the opening and closing cinematics.
Epic Mickey
1
According to Warren Spector, there were originally three different designs for Mickey, with his appearance changing based on whether the player made heroic or mischievous choices. The designs were based off different eras of Mickey Mouse cartoons. Hero Mickey was based on his old movie posters, Wasterlander was based on 1930s vintage Mickey, and Scrapper was inspired by the early black and white Mickey cartoons (along with the 1995 Mickey Mouse short 'Runaway Brain').
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
1
Zack is the only Final Fantasy character to appear in the game. Other Final Fantasy characters were originally planned to appear but Tetsuya Nomura thought that they would have made the story go too far off track.

Zack was chosen to be the only Final Fantasy character due to the fact the development team wanted a character that was from the past to fit with the prequel story.
Xenoblade Chronicles
1
In a 2012 interview, Executive Producer Tetsuya Takahashi admitted to experimenting with a turn-based battle system that allowed the player to see into the future of the battle. The idea was ultimately scrapped for a real-time battle system.
Paper Mario
1
Paper Mario was originally slated to be released on the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive. However, due to the Disk Drive's commercial failure, the game was later released on the cartridge format.
I Wanna Be the Guy
1
The Kid's design came about as the game's designer, Micheal O'Reilly, was speaking with a friend about the difficulties of making sprite art. He made something very quickly that he would wind up using for the game. He notes that he didn't think I Wanna Be The Guy would become popular, so he really didn't put that much effort into the Kid's design, as it was simply a project where he was attempting to learn how to make video games.
Guitar Hero
1
The sound producers wanted to make the cover songs as authentic as they could. When they found out that Ozzy Osbourne used a metal fan to record the intro to "Iron Man," they found the same model fan on Craigslist to recreate the same vocal effect for their cover version used in the game.
Super Mario 64
1
The Idea for Metal Mario may have come from an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto published in 1991, in Nintendo Power's Mario Mania Player's Guide, Miyamoto reportedly said: "Who knows what Mario will look like in the future? Maybe he'll wear metallic clothes!"
Team Fortress 2
1
There are unused sounds for the Rescue Ranger. The sound names imply that at one point during development, the weapon was able to move buildings and to be charged to fire a (probably) more powerful shot. These abilities were presumably removed for balancing reasons.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
1
The game's storytelling was inspired by American television dramas, specifically the shows "90210" and "Glee".
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
1
Attachment Unused coding and sound files remaining in the game show that at one time the MH-6 Little Bird was to be a pilotable killstreak reward, instead of just delivering care packages and appearing in the campaign.

It can be restored through modding the game, but is hard to pilot, and will clip through the terrain.
Super Smash Bros.
1
Super Smash Bros. was developed with a low budget, had low publicity when it launched in Japan, and was even intended to be Japan-exclusive. However, the game's success prompted Nintendo to localize it for international audiences.
