Sakurai and his team were already working on the Byleth DLC before Fire Emblem: Three Houses was even released. The game director had to work with an early developer's build of the game, which he said took quite a long time to finish. This early build was in fact so Top Secret Sakurai couldn't even been seen playing it and he was even forbidden from taking it to his house.

The Japanase and Korean versions of the game feature interviews with the main character's voice actors. This was completely removed from the game's western release, rather than being redone with the English voice actors, although data file remnants of it can still be found within the game's code.

According to the game's producer Yoshinori Ono, the team considered putting Master Chief from Halo or Marcus Fenix from Gears of War as guest characters for the Xbox 360 version but they couldn't be added in the end. He stated:

"We do have the exclusive characters for the Sony platform. We have Cole, the two Sony cats, Kuro and Toro. But basically for the Xbox 360, we were in discussions with them (Microsoft) for which character to put in as an exclusive, but we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that".

"In terms of characters we wish we could have put in the game, Master Chief or Marcus Fenix from Gears of War would have been really cool, but it was just really difficult,".

Attachment In the end credits of the Japanese release, three additional images with captions underneath them are shown during the montage of official artwork. These images appear to be drawings of ideas sent by young Japanese fans to Capcom that influenced the game's development, possibly as part of a magazine contest:

• The first image shown in the credits, submitted by 14-year-old Masahiro Onuma from Osaka, reads:

"Kobun Mole
It comes out of the land on the ground, and comes out of anywhere in the cave. You can hit the body with a drill and crush the scattered soil and stones!"

This drawing appears to be the first design for the Servbot Borer that was later simplified for the final game and later modified again in Mega Man Legends 2.

• The second image, submitted by 11-year-old Takumi Miyayoshi from the Ishikawa Prefecture, reads:

"Kobun's Bomb
Dummy dolls are passing one after another from right to left. (It's a bomb)"

This drawing may be the first design for the Servbot training minigame in the Gym, where a Servbot has to dodge and catch bombs volleyed at it by two other Servbots and then throw them back at targets behind them.

• The third image, submitted by 10-year-old Masashi Kaga from Tokyo, reads:

"Bonne Rocket Bazooka
There is a roller under the trigger, so you can move while doing something!!"

This drawing appears to be the first design for the Bonne Bazooka, a weapon used by the Gustaff that can be developed by Servbot #31 after he obtains his skill and the Pipe from the Nakkai Ruins.

The text featured on the fan drawings themselves have been left untranslated in this submission as the pictures were scaled down to fit in the credits and thus appear smaller, grainier and more difficult to read.

In the initial release of Chapter 1, the player could obtain a "Wrist Protector" item at the start of the Dark World if they manage to reach the area in under six minutes; the item allows the player to skip text by holding down the C key.

In the Chapter 1 & 2 release, the Wrist Protector is removed, and its functionality is permanently enabled from the outset, even before entering the Dark World in Chapter 1.

Attachment In Super Street Fighter IV, Hugo from Final Fight can be seen in the background in the Metro City stage, 'Skyscraper Under Construction'. When the Ultra Street Fighter IV announcement trailer was released, two Hugos could be seen together both in playable form and in the background. This was later fixed in the final version, if the player selects Hugo to play in 'Skyscraper Under Construction', the other Hugo in the background is replaced by a different character.

Duke's profile information is left blank in the Japanese and Internation releases of the game. The North American version is the only one that features the information.

Critical Bursts were not originally going to be featured in the game. The staff did not see them as a priority at the time and did not add them to the demo. However, the game's director, Yohei Shinbori, thought they were an interesting idea and added the mechanic into the game's E3 playable build. After receiving positive feedback, an improved version of Critical Bursts became part of the final product.

Originally in the game's demo, Power Blows could be executed multiple times in a match. Since it was too easy to hit the opponent with Power Blows, they were limited to once per round in the final game.

Attachment In the original Game Boy release, the levels "Turn Off the Giant Faucet!" and "Escape from the Tea Cup!" contain a unique fish enemy that grabs Wario and pins him to a wall until he escapes. For unknown reasons, the Game Boy Color release replaces this enemy with a standard sawfish; however, full-color graphics for it are still present in the game's code.

In the Japanese version of the game, all sixteen player character designs have black eyes, as was the case in Dōbutsu no Mori. In the international release, however, most of them are altered to give them blue, green, or brown eyes; only two variants for each gender remain unaltered.

Attachment Several clothing items were changed between the Japanese and international releases of the game:

•The Three Arc Shirt (a.k.a. the Familiar Shirt) is replaced with the Fortune Shirt, due to the former's resemblance to Charlie Brown's shirt in the American comic strip Peanuts (which had ended its print run in 2000, shortly before the game's release).
•The Tomato Juice Shirt is replaced with the Fishbone Shirt, due to the former's design resembling bloodstains.
•The W Shirt is replaced with the Houndstooth Tee, due to the former's resemblance to the logo of American fast food chain McDonald's.
•The Puzzling Shirt is redesigned to use more pastel colors, also changing the bottom-center square from orange to purple, to reduce the design's similarity to the Rubik's Cube brand of toy puzzles.
•The I Love GC Shirt (itself a redesign of the I Love 64 shirt from Dōbutsu no Mori) is replaced with the Cherry Shirt, due to the former being a parody of the I ❤ NY logo, which is trademarked by the New York Department of Economic Development.

These redesigns are also carried over to Dobutsu no Mori e+.

Attachment In the initial "SURVEY_PROGRAM" release of Chapter 1, the Librarby's computer lab entrance uses a single door; Chapter 2 however changes this to a set of double doors, with the accompanying sign being horizontally squished and moved to the left side of the doorframe. Several stray pixels in the Librarby interior are also cleaned off.

Because Chapter 2 takes place just one day after Chapter 1, the Chapter 1 & 2 release changes the Librarby interior in Chapter 1 to match that of Chapter 2.
