Cuphead
2
Attachment According to a GameSpot interview with the game's lead designer Jared Moldenhauer, he confirmed that the presence of a plush lizard and a plush wolf alongside Mr. Chimes the monkey toy boss is an homage to George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard, and Ralph the wolf from the arcade game Rampage.

One of Cagney Carnation's attacks in his final phase has him spitting dandelion seeds. As of version 1.1.3, when a player gets hit by one of these seeds, the screen blurs and the colors shift briefly. On Studio MDHR’s official website page regarding the update, the final bullet point says “Touch fuzzy, get a little dizzy”. This attack is a reference to Level 1-7 “Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy” from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

After Queen realizes that she didn't capture Ralsei out of all of the Lightners due to not having enough cages, the sound effect that plays with the Iris Out zooming in on her face is the same sound effect used on the Iris Out on Mario when completing a level in Super Mario World.

Attachment When looking into one of the grocery baskets filled with fruit in Sans' grocery store, it states that it contains "(Grapes, melons, oranges, and the scent of fresh pineapples...)". This references the DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64, specifically the outro line "walnuts, peanuts, pineapples smells, grapes, melons, oranges, and coconut shells".

Attachment One of Mauswheel's battle dialogue is "(Rolling around at the speed of mouse...)". This is a reference to "Rolling around at the speed of sound", the opening line of the song "Escape from the City" in Sonic Adventure 2.

Attachment When speaking to Father Alvin about Asriel near the end of Chapter 2, he will mention about how Asriel used to beg for forgiveness for "dropping the lizard in the pit to jump high" in a video game. This is a nod to an exploit often used in Mario games, starting with Super Mario World, in which the player can jump off of Yoshi into a bottomless pit in order to land safely on a platform that they missed.

Attachment When speaking to Toriel at the end of Chapter 1, she'll mention how Asriel loved playing as the "green, egg laying lizard" from the game "Super Smashing Fighters," a reference to Yoshi in Super Smash Bros.

Toriel will also mention a related incident in which Asgore painted green spots on eggs as part of a birthday party for Asriel themed around the lizard (referencing Yoshi's eggs). The following morning, Asgore cooked the eggs for breakfast, which upset Asriel enough that it caused him to hate the book about "eating green eggs". This is a nod to the Dr. Seuss book "Green Eggs & Ham".

Attachment After completing the light puzzles, Berdly will accuse Susie of cheating, akin to when she "wavedash[es]". This is a nod to the exploit that originated in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It's fitting that Berdly says this, as his Dark World design resembles a mix of Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi from the Star Fox series, who are two of the most popular characters used in the competitive scene for Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Two "Break Time" stages in Sunbaked Desert prominently incorporate music from Super Mario Sunshine: the level "Break Time! Raise The Stage" uses the track "Secret Course", while "Break Time! Bouncy Tunes" uses the track "Isle Delfino" (commonly known as the Delfino Plaza theme).

The use of music from Super Mario Sunshine appears to tie in with the subplot for Sunbaked Desert, in which Bowser Jr. hoards the region's water for himself; Sunshine was previously a water-themed game featuring Bowser Jr. as the main antagonist.

Attachment If the player tries to overwrite a different save file from the one they're currently using, the phrase "Not your last save. Save here anyway?" will pop up on the screen. If the player says no to this question 10 times and then say yes on the 11th attempt, Mario will hunch over on the save screen looking sad. Curiously if the player says no 11 times and says yes on the 12th attempt, Mario will instead have an angry appearance. Reportedly, whichever face is chosen based on if the number of times the player say no is even or odd before eventually saying yes.

Attachment Sonic and Dr. Eggman’s cameos in the 2012 film "Wreck-It Ralph" and its 2018 sequel "Ralph Breaks the Internet" can be attributed to an arcade cabinet for Sonic Championship (the international title used for Sonic the Fighters outside of Japan) being in Litwak’s Arcade. Despite the game using the classic designs for the characters, Sonic and Eggman are shown in their modern designs inside the gaming world.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

Attachment Squidward's forward tilt in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is based on a meme that went viral around the first game's pre-launch, showing a screenshot of Squidward kicking with poorly aligned fighting game hitboxes and the caption "AH HELL NAW SKODWERD GOT THE JANKY ASS HITBOX". Despite this origin, the move's hitbox "isn't very janky".

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen

The series takes several naming cues from the English glam rock band Queen, who are highly popular in Japan. The name of the series itself, Ogre Battle, comes from a song off of Queen's 1974 sophomore album Queen II; another song on the album, "The March of the Black Queen", is the namesake for the series' first installment. The second game, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, takes its name from Queen's 1976 song "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)", an homage to their Japanese fanbase.

Another Queen reference in The March of the Black Queen can be found with one of its regions, the Rhyan Sea. The area's name comes from "Seven Seas of Rhye", a song which appears in an unfinished instrumental form on Queen's 1973 self-titled debut and was later completed with vocals on Queen II.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

In the Flashback Tape "Bandicoot vs. Wombat Eval", Cortex compares the results of preliminary tests deciding on if he should use a bandicoot or a wombat for future experiments to turn him into a general. Near the end of the game during the "Toxic Tunnels" stage, he exclaims had he chosen a wombat rather than a bandicoot, "this could have all been different". This plot point is a nod to Crash's early incarnation Willy the Wombat.

In the Flashback Tape "The Gauntlet", Cortex will say "Maybe next time I'll try a hedgehog…or a bobcat…or a gecko". These are references to Sonic the Hedgehog, Bubsy the Bobcat, and Gex the Gecko, all of which were wisecracking anthropomorphic characters from 1990s platformers, much like Crash.

Attachment According to the Willy the Wombat production bible, Dr. Neo Cortex was born in the circus and physically abused by clowns. Since then, anything that involves clowns makes Cortex enraged.

In games like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and Crash Team Rumble, Cortex has an unlockable skin in which he is dressed up like a clown. Humorously in Nitro-Fueled, Cortex’s victory animation features him with a dismal glare.

Attachment In Twilight Town, to enter the Le Grand Bistrot cooking minigames themed after the Pixar film "Ratatouille", you have to interact with a book outside the restaurant. The menu that appears before entering the restaurant features the film's main protagonist Remy emerging and standing in front of a page that features a message written in French on it. When translated to English, it reads:

"Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can emerge anywhere.
Don't let anyone limit you on the pretext of your origins.
Your only limit is your soul.
Everybody can cook, but only the daring can achieve excellence."

This appears to be a shortened, paraphrased version of a restaurant review written by the critic Anton Ego towards the end of the original film.

While The Cat in the Hat was able to have an interactive read-along based off his own story by Living Books, he would also show up as an Easter egg in the other 2 interactive read-alongs of Dr. Seuss books. In Dr. Seuss's ABC, he will appear if you click on one of the C's on the Letter C page. In Green Eggs and Ham, he will jump out of the box featured on page 17 when clicking on it.

Within the game is a series of hidden developer messages. The first one, which reads "PRESS CTRL-Z DURING THE CARTOONS," is accessible by enabling joystick mode and pressing button 1 after navigating the joystick cursor to the bottom-left of the title screen. If the player complies with the message and presses Ctrl-Z during the game's cutscenes, they'll be given different fragments of a cipher message; piecing them together and decoding them reveals the sentence "ENTER THREE LETTER CODE WHEN YOU RETIRE." Likewise, pressing Ctrl-Z while the game displays the cipher fragments brings up the phrase "DOUBLE HELIX," alluding to the shape of a DNA molecule. Accordingly, if the player types "DNA" on the retirement screen that appears after beating the game, they will receive a congratulatory message from programmer Robert Cook.

The complicated nature of this Easter egg resulted in it going undiscovered until 2016, when game preservationist 4a.m. tried cracking the ROM's atypically complex antipiracy protections while attempting to preserve as many Apple II games online as possible. Cook sent 4a.m. a congratulatory message on Twitter after discovering the secret, jokingly stating that "I assumed it would take a thousand, but you solved it in a mere 33 years."
