When first being developed, the game had the working title of "Abe Gets Boned and Brewed".

If Abe saves all the Mudokons, a screen congratulating Abe will appear after the game's ending. This screen also quotes, "And don't even worry about your long lost Mudokon mother. Yet.... You'll know all about it when you meet Munch." This ties Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus into Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, though the plot with Abe's Mother did not make it into the final version.

The AA meeting for the Mudokons at "Alf's Rehab & Tea" in the good ending was based on director Lorne Lanning's experience with AA meetings that both he and his father attended for his father's alcoholism.

The developers of the game compiled all the game's cutscenes into a 14+ minute movie and submitted the film for an Academy Award, which it unfortunately lost.
