Metal Gear Solid 4 currently holds the Guinness World Record for "Longest Cutscene in a Video Game", at 27 minutes; some sources, however, claim that the cutscene in question is even longer, at 71 minutes. In light of this, GameRant writer Tom Bowen stated in a 2020 article that "it's not exactly clear how the team at Guinness World Records decides what constitutes a cutscene and when to award records," pointing out that if one follows Guinness' 27-minute claim and not the alternative 71-minute one, the true record holder should instead be a 46-minute cutscene in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Despite this, Guinness' website still lists both Metal Gear Solid 4 and the 27-minute runtime as of 2024.
