In the Japanese release, the game featured an e-reader option allowing players to unlock characters, courses and challenges in the game using special e-reader cards.

This feature was removed in the western release due to the unpopularity of the e-reader device in the west. All vehicles, courses and challenges were instead made available to unlock in the game via the completion of cups and challenges.

There are a number of unused courses from the original F-Zero contained in the games files;
•Mute City II
•Big Blue II
•Fire Field II
•Red Canyon II
•Silence II
•Port Town III
•Sand Ocean II
•White Land II

It's possible to access these courses with the use of a cheat device.
