According to the Etrian Odyssey II Untold Staff Book, the restaurant in High Lagaard was originally planned to be run by three sisters who represented the three types of dishes: Western, Japanese, and Chinese. To unlock new recipes, the player would then have to battle the sisters. This idea was seen as overambitious, prompting the removal of the battles and the creation of a single chef, Regina, to lead the restaurant instead.
