The Japanese version has some differences compared to the European and US versions:
• Because of the remapped buttons for confirm and back, it is not possible to input cheat codes during gameplay. Main menu codes can be activated by skillful button pressing using the music player in the options menu.
• Text boxes that appear during gameplay have white text instead of yellow.
• The Japanese version supports only one Memory Card slot.
• When prompted to start a new game, Japanese version has Circle to accept and X to cancel. Other versions have Square for accept and Triangle for cancel.
• The Japanese version doesn't show D-pad functions in the pause menu control screen.
• Music & SFX tests are together and vibration toggle is added to main menu options.
