Activision was the first third-party developer to receive credit as a third-party, with its first games being released on the Atari 2600. Activision took Atari to court to gain the right to develop for the Atari 2600, and won, paving the way for third-party developers and crediting creators in games. Atari previously didn't allow other companies to make games for their console, and developers received no credit.

It appears that originally the player could recruit Thane, Tali, Samara or Legion a lot earlier in the game; possibly directly after the prologue like Miranda and Jacob. By using an editor tool to unlock them from the beginning of the game, players will discover that the four have extensive dialogue for virtually every mission in the game, including missions which must be complete before their official recruitment missions. Furthermore, there are some unique scenes should the player bring Legion in particular along onto certain missions, such as characters commenting on his presence.

Legion's presence also triggers an exclusive Paragon Interrupt during Tali's recruitment mission. Upon meeting Tali, she will notice Legion and immediately draw her gun, triggering a Paragon Interrupt prompt. If the player doesn't press it, she will open fire at Legion who will run for cover.

In chapter 5, there is a turret that you can rescue for being "different." This turret (named the Oracle Turret by fans and programers) will spout off some several cryptic messages that relate to the later in the game:
• "Get mad. Don't make lemonade." - This is a quote from Cave Johnson.
Spoiler:"Prometheus was punished by the gods for giving the gift of knowledge to man. He was cast into the bowels of the earth and pecked by birds." - This is referencing how Wheatly is given all of GLaDOS's power and turns GLaDOS into a potato, throws her and you into the underground labs, and GLaDOS is pecked at by a bird.
Spoiler:"It won't be enough." - This reveals that the paradox will not work on Wheatly.
Spoiler:"The answer is beneath us." - This refers to the underground labs.
Spoiler:"Her name is Caroline." - Caroline being GLaDOS's real name.

Team Fortress 2

The Mann vs. Machine update, released in August of 2012, had been teased by Valve for almost 3 years:
• In October of 2009, during the Haunted Hallowe'en Special, the will of Zepheniah Mann, the father of Redmond and Blutarch Mann, the owners of Blu and Red, respectively, showed that he had an unknown third son, who was revealed during the Mann vs Machine update as Gray Mann, the one sending robots to destroy Mann Co.
• During the 119th update several months later, a teaser video was released for the Engineer Update. In said video, multiple robot heads of the Heavy and Demoman classes could be seen in the background. These would later be seen as the heads for their respective robots sent by Gray Mann.
• Much later, during the Christmas 2011 update, a hidden back room, accessible only via cheats, was found in the newly added map "Foundry". In the room, it shows a cowering Heavy and Scout looking at developed pictures showing several of Gray Mann's robots. Besides these pictures, there are also 3 numbers in the map, "13 22 13", which in alpha numeric code translates to "MVM", the initals of the future update.
• During the Pyromania update 6 months later, the also newly added map "Doomsday" included another room only accessible with cheats. In this room, a disappointed Spy can be seen with the same 4 pictures and a map showing a town, a factory, and a farm. These 3 places would be the 3 MVM maps, Coaltown, Mannworks, and Decoy, respectively.
• 2 months later, the actual Mann vs. Machine update was released
Cave Story

Right after the fight with Curly Brace, you can go into her room. In there, you can find a secret tunnel. At the end, you will find an item called "Curly's Underwear." This item is a joke item, as it has no use and cannot be removed from your inventory.

In the Plus versions of the game, finding this hidden item unlocks "Curly Story".
Banjo-Kazooie
1
The music played inside the Ant Hill of Mumbo's Mountain is a slowed down version of what was originally intended to be the world's main theme. The original theme was partially inspired by the Baby Elephant Walk tune from the film "Hatari!".

The theme that was used for the world Treasure Trove Cove was also the second version that the game's composer, Grant Kirkhope, had written due to the change of the game from "Project Dream" to "Banjo-Kazooie".

Sonic CD

Attachment When Sonic CD was being remade using Christian Whitehead's self-made engine, he wanted to include a new level called "Desert Dazzle". However, SEGA thought it was a bad idea to deviate from the original project. You can actually find a concept image with Christian's initials on it in the sound test by entering PCM:32|DA:8
The Sims 3
1
Attachment If a Sim with the Investigator profession is on a stake-out, there is a chance that this Sim will reference the case of Bella Goth. Bella Goth first appeared as a playable character in the console version of The Sims. Later, in the Sims 2, she appears to be missing from her family's neighborhood, Pleasentview, and found with no memories in another neighborhood, Strangetown. This reference seems to be a plot-hole, however, as Bella appears as a child in The Sims 3; which is supposed to take place 50 years before the events of The Sims.

Attachment The Snow Golems don't actually have pumpkin heads. They simply wear them as a helmet and their actual faces can be seen by standing in very close proximity to them so that you see through the pumpkin. Shears can be used to remove the pumpkin and cause one to drop it revealing its face, although the pumpkin cannot be put back on the Snow Golem.
Left 4 Dead
1
According to the Left 4 Dead Commentary, the logic behind a rescue closet is that the "dead" survivor did not actually die, but was instead so badly hurt that they crawled into a closet, barricaded themselves in, and recovered somewhat, before noticing they couldn't get out.
EarthBound
1
At the time of EarthBound's development, Shigesato Itoi didn't know how to use computers. He would actually speak each line of dialogue out loud, often one letter at a time, and Matchan Miura typed it up. Itoi used Miura's reactions as a gauge of how good a line was.
