The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
subdirectory_arrow_right The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Game)

Attachment At one point in the Spirit Temple in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link must fight an Iron Knuckle that turns out to be a hypnotized Nabooru, who returns to her senses after being defeated. By clipping the camera through her Iron Knuckle armor, you can see her head modeled underneath her helmet, likely to facilitate the post-defeat cutscene where her armor falls off.

Furthermore, every other Iron Knuckle in the game also has a placeholder Gerudo head modeled underneath the helmet. While much of the head's face is obscured by chainmail, the details that are present indicate that it is most likely an early version of Nabooru's design; of note is that the head's hairstyle is closer to that seen on Gerudo Village's guards, implying that this element was reused for them when Nabooru's design was revised to the version seen in the final game.

This placeholder head is also present inside the Iron Knuckles that Link encounters in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, due to that game reusing many assets from Ocarina of Time.

Attachment The hotel in Celedon City has an invisible PC in the corner. If you stand one space down from the top right corner of the first room and press A, you'll be able to boot it up. It's assumed that this is a slight oversight, as the hotel resembles a Pokemon center, and the programmers removed the PC graphic but not its function.

Attachment Hidden in the game's ROM is an anti-Microsoft illustration. The image shows a Microsoft disc titled 'World Domination 99', likely referring to Microsoft's monopoly of PC software at the time.

Attachment Petey Piranha, Paratroopa, and a Hammer Brother were all going to be playable in the game, as well as a third costume for Miis. The Chain Chomp item was going to return, but was replaced by the Bullet Bill in the final game. Several graphics supporting this appear within the game's data.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
1
Hideo Kojima had requested that Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake be in the game, but due to time constraints he couldn't be added to the game's roster. Sonic the Hedgehog also nearly made it into the game. Sonic's creator Yuji Naka stated that Sonic was going to be in Melee, but he also was cut due to time constraints. Both characters later made it into the sequel, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Attachment The box art for the game shows images from earlier stages of the game's development. The image of word 1 has different paths when compared to the final version, and the second image doesn't represent anything seen in the game's final build.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
1
Miyamoto had originally planned for "A Link to the Past" to have a party system where you could switch between three characters and utilize their individual abilities. The characters would have been a mix between an elf and a fighter, a magic user, and a girl.

Cloud's hair was originally supposed to be black and slicked back to contrast with Sephiroth's long white hair. The developers also thought it would be a good way to render less polygons on screen. The idea was eventually ditched for his iconic spiky hair. The idea was later used for Angeal, the original wielder of the Buster Sword and Sephiroph's close friend in Crisis Core.

Attachment The texture of the Metroid assist trophy contains a sprite of EarthBound's Mr. Saturn. It can't be seen in-game, as it isn't mapped to the model.
Franchise: Mario
1
Shigeru Miyamoto wanted Mario to have a dinosaur companion ever since Super Mario Bros. but it wasn't thought possible at the time due to the limitations of the NES. He wanted to implement Yoshi in Super Mario Bros. 3 but again could not. Two power-ups were created to fill the gap - raccoon and frog Mario. Co-worker Takashi Tezuka once speculated that Miyamoto's love of horse riding had influenced Yoshi's creation.

Attachment There are 3 unused items in the game's code:
Warp System: Allows you to exit to the world map, disappears after use. Likely removed due to the number of times in the story you're supposed to be trapped in a dungeon.
Sphere: The description reads "Ball?" There appears to be no other use for it.
Badge 2: Again, has no actual use, and is just a recolor of the Leader's Badge.

Attachment In the first level of the game, the Dam, there's a small island near the end which can be seen from afar. The island features a guard tower and an inoperable drone gun with some beta textures. It can only be reachable using a cheat device and a no clipping cheat enabled.

Left over code suggest the player had to travel to the island and retrieve proper equipment to perform a bungee jump. 'Piton Gun' and 'Bungee' can still be seen in the games code, and a Piton Gun is what Bond used in the movie to get to the facility. However, according to Duncan Botwood, one of the developers on the game, it was originally planned for players to investigate the area and find some armor as a reward.

There are a few unused tracks in the game that are accessible from a hidden Music Menu. "newdream4" is different depending on if you're playing the US or EU version of the game. In the EU version, it sounds like an unfinished remix of worlds 2 and 4's music. The other, "sbr_mall_grager" is a very short tune that sounds very unfinished. It could possibly have been a piece of music associated with a boss.
