The files of Zoo Tycoon 2's Dino Danger Pack (consisting of Dinosaurs that would later be implemented into the Game's Extinct Animals Expansion) show that Styracosaurus babies were originally intended to be green rather then having the same coloured textures as they do as adults.

Even though the horns of female Bongos are shorter than male Bongos in real life, both genders' horns are the same size in the game's African Adventure expansion.

The Killer Penguin in the Extinct Animals expansion is a reference to a glitch in the first Zoo Tycoon where Emperor Penguins would kill any herbivorous animal that had been placed in their exhibit. They may also be a reference to the Penguins from the DreamWorks movie Madagascar, as their Zoopedia entry states them to be from Madagascar.
