When first entering The Cave, the three default trinkets that are required to enter the main portion of The Cave are the Jewelled Skull, the Thespianship Award, and the Cursed Guitar. However, if any of the characters failed to escape The Cave on a previous playthrough, their skeletal remains and their object of desire will usually replace one of these.
