In an interview with Phil Tossell (the lead software engineer for Star Fox Adventures) within an issue of Retro Gamer, he admitted the development team thought the game may have never actually even been released because of the impending Microsoft buyout.

Glad it did release in the nick of time. Otherwise the Star Fox voice chats in Melee based on how they were teasing Star Fox Adventures would've been pointless.
