The mystical weapon Azoth was named by the game's designer Yasuhisa Kawamura as an inside joke, referring to another weapon called Parcelsus' Sword in one of his earlier works, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Azoth and Paracelsus both originate from the same mythos.
