A promotional event known as "Inserted Evil" was created to advertise the game. The promotion involved a variety of puzzles in which the player had to find a series of clues hidden within websites made specifically for the event in order to help an insider find evidence to expose the Umbrella Corporation.

According to Operation Raccoon City's writer and creative director Adam Bullied, the Spec-Op team's leader Crispin Jettingham is gay. His nickname Dee-Ay, or DA, is actually short of "Don't Ask", referring to the phrase "don't ask, don't tell".
