In the Arklay Laboratory, the 'MO disk reader' is actually the GameCube console, as at the time the game was exclusive to the GameCube. However, for the HD Remastered version, the 'MO disk reader' was altered on all platforms to avoid using a console related to Nintendo, even on Nintendo Switch.

In the DS, both Japanese versions of the PlayStation and Saturn release, and some PC versions of the first Resident Evil game, the cutscene after encountering the first zombie includes a scene where Kenneth's head falls to the floor and rollls towards the camera. The head scene was removed from the other versions, even though his head is still detached from his body.
In later games containing the same scene, such as Resident Evil (2002) and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Kenneth's head remains attached to his body.

As a tie-in to the remake of the game, a sequel to the original side-story "Wesker's Report" was made, named "Wesker's Report II." Unlike the first Report, the second was not a video but as text on various backgrounds relating to the Spencer Mansion Laboratory. The Report in this case was written by Wesker himself addressed to his cohort Ada Wong, and details Wesker's backstory set during the 20 years leading up to the 1998 mansion incident.
The Report also details the backstory of Lisa Trevor, the monster encountered in game, as well as background info on William Birkin and the Ashford family, as well as Birkin's jealousy towards the child prodigy Alexia Ashford. The Nemesis parasite is also mentioned in the report as well.
