In the fourth case, Spoiler:when Phoenix implicates Adrian Andrews as the murderer of Juan Corrida, Phoenix says, "Ms. Adrian Andrews! I choose you! You are Mr. Corrida's killer!" This is a reference the English dub of the Pokemon anime, in which Ash exclaims, "I choose you!" after picking a Pokemon to fight in battle.

During Case #4, Farewell My Turnabout, Phoenix and Pearl enter Corrida's hotel room on the second day of the investigation. When Wendy Oldbag appears, Phoenix says "Zoinks! It's the Alien!!!", a reference to the show Scooby Doo, where the character Shaggy yells "Zoinks!" when scared.
