The Japanese version of the game contains a "Best Friends" system where the female player character can become close friends with the game's four bachelorettes instead of marrying a husband. This system was directly ported over from Harvest Moon DS, the male player character version of the game, without any changes to gender-specific dialogue including all the Heart Events and text used during wedding ceremonies and other romantic events. Because of this, the system effectively functions as a same-sex marriage option where the female player and bachelorette move in together and eventually find a random baby to raise. Due to concerns over the game's rating being affected by this and other potential controversies, this was dropped from the North American version of the game, and the bachelorettes will reject the female player's Blue Feather if proposed to.
