Bradley Trainer was an official modified version of Battlezone made for the purpose of training soldiers for the United States Army. Battlezone creator Ed Rotberg was strongly opposed to the concept, as he thought of himself as a pacifist, and was worried that it could be a slippery slope leading to Atari becoming a propaganda studio or weapons supplier. He only agreed to its production should he not be associated with Bradley Trainer in the future, and later referred to it on an internet message board as "a painful subject" that was made "under duress" and asked fans to forget about the game.
