The eponymous old man seen throughout most of the Chessmaster series was played by actor Will Hare. He was perhaps best known for playing 'Old Man Peabody' in the 1985 film Back to the Future. Hare died in 1997 on stage during a rehearsal from a heart attack, at age 81.
