In the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness is a scene in which a drug deal has gone bad. Down a slope is a briefcase and a man telling the player to stay away from the case. Grabbing the case (which grants $25,000), he still state "you are a dead man." This is a reference to the movie "No Country for Old Men," as one of the protagonists stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad and a case which contains $2,000,000. When the protagonist finds and takes the money, he discovers that a hitman (as well as the police and cartel) are out to recover the money.

Attachment Between 23:00 and 0:00 in the eastern peak of Mount Gordo, the ghost of Jolene Cranley-Evans
will be present. She will not take damage or move, and the name of her estranged husband, Jock, is written in blood on the rock where she stands. Jolene fades away if the player gets too close.

Attachment In the US release, going to Cobalt Coast in Pikachu's Play Days leads to a Piñata party where Pikachu has to hit a Pokéball Piñata. In the Japanese release, Pikachu instead plays a similar game called Suikawari.

The objective of the game is to hit a watermelon with a stick, with Pikachu wearing Ash's hat from the anime series to cover his eyes. There are watermelons scattered around along with bananas. Pikachu can trip on the watermelons a couple times before he has to quit the game, whereas tripping on bananas is an automatic game over.

If Pikachu loses, he gets a Soda Can Tab in the Japanese release, and a bottle cap ring in the US release's "Pokéball Piñata".

Much of the game's soundtrack makes reference to other games. These include:

• Skate or Live is a reference to the Electronic Arts game, Skate or Die!
• Rox 300 appears be a reference to Max 300, a song from DDRMAX Dance Dance Revolution 6thMix, known for being the hardest track in the game.
• The music playing on the pause screen is a reference to Battletoads, in which similar music plays on its pause screen.
• Shrine Bros. is a reference to Mario Bros.
• Twin Dragons is a reference to the Double Dragon series of games which also stars twins, as is the achievement/trophy the player wins after defeating the twins in the game.

In the mission Predator, Michael must use a sniper rifle fitted with a thermal scope to find the O'Neil Brothers in the woods at night. If the player zooms in on the thermal heat dot on the bottom right, it appears to be a Bigfoot standing still. Shooting it does nothing and it abruptly disappears after a few seconds.

Later in the game, Spoiler:an entire mission is dedcated to Bigfoot. "The Last One" has Franklin meet a hunter who has been on Sasquatch's trail for 9 years, the same number of years since San Andreas was released. Franklin, however, concludes that Bigfoot is just a man in a suit.

Attachment With the Wild Wasteland perk activated, players can find the words "Romanes eunt domus" written on the side of a building in Cottonwood Cove. This is a reference to the Monty Python movie, "Life of Brian", in which Brian attempts to graffiti "Romans go home" on a building in Latin. However, the statement has several translation errors (much to the chagrin of a passing centurion) and literally translates to "People called Romanes they go the house."
