Bart Simpson and Godzilla were planned to be playable in NBA Jam, but were scrapped. There exists a video from NBA Jam's development showing reference footage of Bart and Godzilla action figures being filmed against a blue screen, as well as color palletes in the game's code labeled "B" and "G", which have yellow skin and green scales respectively.

Game developer Mark Turmell, a die-hard Detroit Pistons fan, admitted that the game code was rigged against the Piston's rival, the then 3-time champions the Chicago Bulls. The coding lowered the stats of the Bulls players during games against the Pistons and caused all last-minute shots to miss.
